Biomedical Image Processing

Positions for Ph.D. candidates are currently available at the Biomedical Imaging Group, École polytechnique fédérale de lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, under the supervision of Prof. Michael Unser. Research topics include the development of sparsity-constrained image-reconstruction algorithms for optical and x-ray phase contrast tomography, microscopy (PALM and STORM), superresolution methods for fluorescence, and the design of novel steerable wavelet transforms for 2-D and 3-D image analysis and processing.

The study requirements are a masters degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or applied mathematics. Previous experience in image/signal processing and wavelets is highly desirable. Applicants should have a strong theoretical background and a desire to use mathematical tools in their research. A good knowledge of Java, C, Mathematica, and Matlab is also required.

EPFL offers top research facilities and competitive remuneration. Appointment for the PhD position is for a maximum of 4 years, provided successful progress, and should lead to a PhD dissertation.
