Wavelet-based Denoising of 3D Microscopic Images

2007
Master Semester Project
Project: 00149

00149
In bio-medical image analysis, the extraction of information can be significantly altered by the presence of random distorsions called "noise". The aim of this project is the implementation of several wavelet-based denoising algorithms and their evaluation on real bio-medical images (3D z-stacks of cell nucleus of the cortex brain and fluorescence microscopy). The main steps of the project will be: 1) To become acquainted with the 3D wavelet transform module and the principle of SURE-LET denoising; 2) The JAVA implementation of an ImageJ plugin for fast and automatic 3D image denoising.
