Cells segmentation with coupled active contours

Hadrien Mottaz
Semester Master Project

Microengineering section, EPFL

January 2010

Abstract

Cells segmentation can provide very useful informations to biologist. In this project, we have developped a new way of segmenting cells having a rectangular shape. Furthermore, these cells are positionned very close to each others. The segmentation of individual cell is done using a rectangular snake which was named Rectanguscule. Once individual cells have been segmented, an evolutive physical model ensures that the segmentation does not overlap each others. The following figures shows the initialization of the Rectanguscules, the optimization and the final results without any overlap.
