AbstractObject detection with invariance to rigid transformations is a common task in biomedical image analysis. In this work, we describe the design of polar-separable steerable filters correlating most with a training template. In a first step, optimal radial profiles are derived based on the Cauchy-Schwartz inequality in Fourier. The detection filter is constructed from higher-order complex Riesz transforms of the previously determined radial profile. In a second step, the radial profile is whitened with the power spectrum of the background to improve the discriminability of the filter. Preliminary experimental results are presented.
