AbstractIn this talk, we show how to construct sparse parametric continuous curve models to fit a sequence of contour points using an inverse problem formulation. Our prior, enforced into our model as a regularization term, is motivated by our need for rotation invariance and sparsity. We extend our problem formulation to curves made of two distinct components with complementary smoothness properties. Both tasks can be solved using B-splines as interpolating functions. We illustrate the performance of our model on different contours having different smoothness properties. Our experimental results show that we can faithfully reconstruct any general contour using few parameters despite possible imprecisions in the measurements.
