Israel Pollak Distinguished Lecture Series (IPDLS'08), Technion, Department of Electrical Engineering, Haifa, Israel, January 13-17, 2008.
We provide an introduction to wavelet bases with an emphasis on the fundamental role of polynomial B-splines. We discuss some recent applications in biomedical imaging, including wavelet-domain denoising, 3D deconvolution of fluorescence micrographs, and the statistical analysis of functional MRI data.
