Demonstration applet for exponential B-splines
2007
Master Semester Project
Project: 00156
Researchers in our laboratory have recently designed new basis functions, called exponential B-splines, that link the responses of analog and digital filters whose poles and zeros are in exact correspondence. These functions are the crucial components for a new, unifying approach to signal processing that combines digital and analog components and concepts. The purpose of this project is to develop a JAVA applet in which the user can generate and modify exponential B-splines interactively by suitable placement of poles and zeros in the complex plane; similar to the design of analog filters.
Interestingly, the tools and concepts that are required for this project are quite basic and are part of the standard curriculum on "Signals and Systems". What is novel here is the direct interaction between the analog and discrete formulations of signal processing.
