Total Intracranial Volume Extraction on 3D MRI MP2RAGE Data
Spring 2013
Master Diploma
Project: 00264
MP2RAGE is a novel MRI self magnetization transmit B1 bias-field corrected sequence that allows improved segmentation and T1-mapping at high magnetic fields. With respect to the traditional MPRAGE sequence two complex images are acquired after two different inversion times, each having different image characteristics in terms of grey and white matter and cerebro-spinal fluid compared to non-brain tissues in the case of brain morphometry.
The goal of this project is to exploit these characteristics through the fact that higher dimensional vectorial information per voxel is available compared to traditional techniques. The project takes place at the interface between hardware related physics and image processing leading to the development of possible enhanced image reconstruction algorithms ultimately enabling a better extraction of the total intracranial volume (i.e., skull stripping) of the brain.
This project is in collaboration with Siemens Medical Solutions.
